• 2024-08-13: the past few weeks very awfully packed with shit happening in my life. i moved out to vienna (finally!) and have felt this overwhelming sense of independence i have never felt before. it's probably normal to feel a bit overwhelmed with moving out, and especially for asian kids, also a bit "guilty" (because of the guilt-tripping from parents). other than that, i learned how to make indian chai (i know it's not much, but god i'm so happy hihi), i have watched a lot of movies on the "immigration struggle". here are the films on "indian/pakistani immigration" i watched: "the namesake (2006)" (india to us), "bend it like beckham (2002)" (india to uk), "blinded by the light (2019)" (pakistan to uk), "mogul mowgli (2020)" (pakistan to uk/us), "the big sick (2017)" (pakistan to us) and films on immigration struggles of other ethnicities like "amreeka (2009)" (palestine to us), "everything everywhere all at once (2022)" (china to us), "minari (2021)" (south korea to us), "yellow rose (2019) (philippines to us) and "almanya (2011)" (turkey to germany). despite having a certain similar theme, i kinda enjoyed most of the movies even if they're predictable sometimes. i think that many movies rarely go into the dept of the real-life family dynamics of asian parents. i find the portrayal of the (usually white) love interest of the protagonist to be a bit overused, but kind of a given since most of these movies are about immigration from the "east" to the "west", where most people are white and it's statistically likelier to have a white partner, obviously. for the protags of these movies it's oftentimes a choice between their own cultural origin ("marry someone from back home") or the "western" culture ("date a white person"), which portrays a false dichotomy in my opinion. i'd think that immigrants from anywhere would usually relate to the struggles of other immigrants from anywhere, because the experience usually overlaps pretty well. i wonder if there's a movie on that.
• 2024-06-03: i've been watching a lot of good movies recently. pretty much all notable films of mira nair, but also some other critically acclaimed stuff like "the life of others" (might my favourite german movie now) and "trainspotting". it so cool watching artsy indian movies by satyajit ray or adoor gopalakrishnan - i never thought i'd enjoy bollywood so much.
• 2024-05-24: i think the loneliness epidemic everyone talks about could be fixed easily if everyone who feels lonely wears a goofy shirt with the text "HI EVERYONE! PLEASE TALK TO ME I AM BORED". i don't see why that wouldn't work, i gotta try doing that
• 2024-05-24: aaaah whyy doo i feel sooo much fatiiiigue again?! i should get checked on sleep apnea...
• 2024-05-23: the funniest thing i heard in a while is "the true kierkegaard's position" on god's existence: see this zizek interview from 43:00 to 44:30
• 2024-05-22: i just wanna have worldwide communist revolution, is that too much to ask?
• 2024-05-18: i have seen these movies recenty:
  • Dune (2021)
  • Life of Pi (2012)
  • Malcom X (1992)
  • The Prince of Egypt (1998)
  they were all good, i personally enjoyed the last one the most, the beginning already called those onions cutting ninjas in my room. malcom x had some really good jazz too.
